Dear Bolu,
I hope this finds you well. The rains are here and it's great. Between the sound of rain, its sight, and its smell, do you have a preference? I don't know but I wouldn't like to live where I can't hear the rain when it falls. I want to hear it beat against the roof, the glass window, and the blessed ground. I like the quick dash I make to close the shutters when the downpour starts. I say quick dash, but I'm never quick enough. Some droplets find their way in and hit me before I close the shutters completely, but I don't mind that at all. I also like that when it rains, the rain has free rein over the sky. It sends everything into hiding—except aeroplanes, helicopters, and other man-made beasts of the air. Yes, the rain is quite powerful but man is just as defiant, and I find that interesting.
I don't have a lot to say today. Most of the ideas I've been consumed by recently have not been nurtured well enough to be shared. And for some others, I'm unsure if they should be letters or essays, so they'll remain out of sight until I decide. If you’re interested in adding a new read to your Substack, might I suggest you check out Erik Hoel’s The Intrinsic Perspective? I find his pieces thoughtful and fun, and I’m confident that you would as well.
You're great, I trust. It's the second half of the year and I hope it stays kind to you. I hope you dare to start doing whatever it is you've always hoped to do. I hope you're strong enough to make of this year and of yourself, whatever you want, dear friend.
Fin.
P.S.
Do you know the song that goes like this, "Rain, rain go away; come again another day; little children want to play"? We sang it as children but the rain never went away no matter the size of the choir or the loudness of its voice. That's a good shout for the first evidence we encounter that the universe is irreverent to our feelings.
